The zodiac is a circic of space surrounding the earth and is an imagined bell in the heavens in which the planets travel or as is commonly understood as the apparent path of the.Sun round the earth. i.e. elliptic. It is invisible.
The zodiac has been divided into twelve parts of 30 degrees each, each part is called a Sign comprising 30 degrees of celestial Ibngitude. The planets travel in its orbit, going from one sign to another and completing the whole zodiac.
We provide a Table of Zodical signs and their elements indicating month etc. as per Hindu Astrology.
Tin Astfrism or Nakshatra
A Nakshatra or an Aslcrism is a group of stars found in the sky. According to the ancient astrological canons, the zodiac is divided into 27 sections, the area of which has been marked by a particular star, located close to the zodiac belt; such a section is called Asterism or in Sanskrit, Nakshatra.
These arc of great importance in Hindu astrology where many things arc worked out by the Nakshatras. The Western astrologers always calculate in terms of signs and cusps and when they speak of the zodiac, they always mean the elliptic Sun's path.
These Nakshatras arc grouped into triads and a planet is said to rule each triad. The name of each Nakshatra. his extent, the planets that rule the same and their respective periods are tabulated on page 7 and these should be memorised for further use, particularly the number of each Nakshatra.
These phases indicate Full Dark Moon lo Full Moon or in Hindu Astrology callcd Amavasya lo Poornima respectively and the periods arc called Krishna Paksha and Shukla Paksha respectively. In each period there are 14 tithis besides Amavasya and Poornima.
To find out the tithi, deduct the longitude of Sun from Moon. If difference is more than 180 degrees, it is Dark half or Krishna Paksha and if the difference is less than 180 degrees, it is Bright half or Shukla Paksha. Divide the difference by 12 degrees. The quotient represents the number of tithis elapsed and the remainde. the part of the next (current) tithi.
